About Polwatte House
Award Winning Polwatte House was built by the British Army during the British rule in the 1940's as an Officer's Mess. The house has history and now has a style all of its own, nestled in a coconut estate overlooking the Mahaweli River.
Polwatte House has been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Award 2016.
While staying in a mixed Sri Lankan / English home, you can experience real Sri Lankan life, while enjoying the benefits of English hosts with tons of local knowledge. We are a family with young children & 3 dogs (the dogs live outside and are not allowed in the house). Guests can enjoy a real Sri Lankan experience, with delicious home made food, either Sri Lankan or fusion, home made bread, jams and chutneys.
Polwatte Estate is also home to porcupines, mongooses, parrots, fruit bats, small deer, sea eagles and occasional sightings of peacocks and hornbills.

Location: Polwatte House, Kundasale, is 8km from Kandy city. It's only a 15-20min drive from the city or 15-20min drive from the Sea Plane landing station at Polgolla Dam, just outside of Kandy. Guests love the peace at Polwatte House away from the busy noisy city centre. It's also a stunning spot for bird watching next to the river (come and see Hornbills, Sea Eagles, Indian Rollers, Egrets, Parakeets, Owls and Heron's).
